Bethany Lutheran Church in The Dalles will host a series of classes taught by Dave Ramsey, radio personality and financial advisor. The series is called “Financial Peace University,” and is presented over 13 lessons. Ramsey’s presentations are provided in professional video recordings of live classes, covering topics like saving, coming to agreement within your household, budgeting, eliminating debt, understanding credit bureaus, the power of marketing, insurance, investments, and more. In conjunction with the video presentation, each session will include exercises for all participants, and will apply directly to their daily lives. Participants who complete the course will be designated as graduates of the program.
The Financial Peace University program will be hosted at Bethany Lutheran Church at 2323 E. 12th St. (E. 12th and Thompson), but will be presented apart from the regular calendar of church events. It is not a production of the church, but a presentation by Dave Ramsey. While Bethany does not intend to endorse Ramsey’s doctrinal perspective, the congregation considers this an excellent opportunity to learn his effective system for balance and responsibility in our personal finances.
Following the biblical principle of stewardship, Bethany teaches that everything we possess is from God, including spiritual gifts and material gifts. These gifts are temporary, because we all must depart this world sooner or later, and even the world itself will come to an end. When our time comes, we will be accountable for our stewardship, as Jesus taught in Matthew 25:14–31. Yet Jesus has also provided forgiveness by receiving the punishment deserved by every other human being, while providing His own perfect record of righteousness, which is now reckoned to us by faith. Because of God’s gift of forgiveness through Jesus, Bethany’s members are eager to make the best use of His material blessings. Financial Peace University offers the needed training to do that.
Bethany Lutheran Church invites other members of our community as well. There will be a free introductory session, open to all, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hood River, after the Sunday Divine Service on May 13, beginning at about 10:15 AM. The same introductory lesson will be shown the next Sunday at Bethany in The Dalles, at about 12:30 PM. The regular sessions will be held weekly at Bethany, beginning on Sunday, June 3, at 4 PM. Participation in the course requires a set of course materials for each family, which may be purchased at a discounted price through the congregation. For more information:
